Finished in exclusive Sunburst Yellow over a Black Cloth interior, this 1997 Mazda RX-7 Type RS-R is part of the special 30th Anniversary Limited Edition created for the Japanese domestic market to commemorate 30 years of Mazda rotary-engine production. Production of the Type RS-R was limited to just 500 examples for Japan, making it a particularly distinctive factory variant of the FD-generation RX-7. The anniversary specification combined the Type RS platform with exclusive Sunburst Yellow paint, special gunmetal-finished wheels, Bilstein dampers derived from the Type RZ, and unique RS-R-specific details.

At the heart of the RS-R is Mazda's legendary 13B-REW sequential twin-turbo rotary engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The lightweight FD chassis utilizes double-wishbone independent suspension, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, while the RS-R's factory Bilstein dampers provide additional performance-focused chassis hardware. This example retains the right-hand-drive configuration appropriate to its Japanese-market origins.

The anniversary-specific interior incorporates details unique to the RS-R, including an RS-R-specific instrument panel
treatment, chrome-plated gauge rings, and a fine-scale speedometer and tachometer.

Performance has been enhanced with a period-appropriate collection of Japanese components centered around an ARC front-mount intercooler with GReddy intercooler piping and an AutoExe Style cold air intake. An HKS Ti Hi-Power cat-back exhaust complements the upgraded intake and charge-air system while adding the distinctive exhaust character associated with a modified 13B-REW rotary.

The chassis has been upgraded with Fortune Auto 500 Series coilovers, an AutoExe front strut tower bar, and a Cusco rear strut bar, providing adjustable suspension and additional chassis reinforcement. A Chase Bays brake booster delete kit further contributes to the performance-focused configuration, while 18-inch Work Emotion XD9 wheels finished in Grey with Muteki lug nuts provide a classic Japanese motorsport-inspired fitment.

The exterior

Driver monitoring has been comprehensively upgraded with a Defi-Link Control Unit II controlling individual Defi boost, oil-temperature, and water-temperature gauges. A custom 3D-printed dual gauge pod and steering-wheel gauge pod integrate the additional instrumentation into the right-hand-drive cockpit, providing important real-time information for the modified twin-turbo rotary powertrain.

Inside, a MOMO Race steering wheel provides a more direct driver interface, while a carbon fiber shift knob, carbon fiber door sill trim plates, RHD passenger footrest, and custom 3D-printed cup holder add further enthusiast-focused details. The audio system has also been modernized with a Kenwood double-DIN head unit, Kicker Comp 12-inch subwoofer and enclosure, Kicker CXA300.1 amplifier, and Focal tweeters with a Focal Access passive crossover network.
